Spanish left winger Albert Riera signed for Liverpool at the end of the transfer deadline in August 2008.

He is a pacey, tricky player who will take on defenders and is a good crosser of the ball. Riera was hugely popular at Espanyol and their fans were sorry to see him leave.

Riera has experience of playing the Premiership before having played on loan at Manchester City during the 2005-2006 season. During that period he briefly made an appearance at Anfield, coming on as a substitute in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over City in February 2006.

He has been capped five times by his country to-date, and he scored his one and only international goal in Spain's 3-1 win away to Denmark in a European Championship qualifier in October 2007.
